There are days as district attorney and coroner that are emotionally tough to process.

On Dec. 23, 2016, we encountered the death of three family members in an apartment in Johnstown – a young mother and father along with their 5-month-old little girl.

The parents died of drug overdoses. The dad was found dead in the downstairs living room and the mom in an upstairs bathroom only a few feet away from the master bedroom, where their baby lay in her bassinet, having died from starvation after days without care.

Sadness weighed on us in the days and weeks ahead. We were more committed than ever to continue our fight to tackle our growing opioid problem. Too many lives were being lost.
